BackGround

Execute a command in the background.

BackGround

Shortest form: bg.

Run one or two command lines in a background thread and return at once. Each argument is one complete command line: quote it, and use single quotes to delay $var expansion until the job runs. Only the first two arguments are used; any further ones are silently dropped. The second line runs only if the first succeeds.

At most 10 jobs can exist at a time (bg: ERROR: too many background tasks). Jobs are numbered from 1; see jobs and kill. A failing job prints bg: error in job <n>: code <rc> cmd_idx: <i>. Output goes to the shell’s console: the connected bcmsh/bcmcmd client, or syslog when nobody is connected.

Whether a job is safe depends on its commands. It runs at the same time as syncd and as your foreground commands.

Hardware-validated

drivshell> background "sleep quiet 30" "echo done"
