INIT

Initialize SOC and S/W

INIT

Initialise the switch chip and SDK layers, usually with a chip reset. The keywords must be spelt out.

Warning

init resets or reprograms the ASIC underneath syncd. Ports, routes and ACLs that the SAI configured are lost, traffic stops, and the switch stays broken until syncd restarts. Use it only in a lab.

The built-in help lists interrupt; on Trident 3 that is rejected with Unknown module: interrupt. pvt_mon and fgl_api print Parameters error. init soc FALSE is the same as init noreset.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init all
init soc [FALSE]

What a plain init does: stop the unit’s background tasks, reset the chip and set up the minimal registers and interrupts. With FALSE the chip is not reset.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init soc
init noreset

Like init soc, but without resetting the chip.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init noreset
init all

Full initialisation: chip, MMU, chip-specific setup and the BCM driver. The usual step after changing a variable with config in a lab. Errors print Unable to reset and initialize BCM driver.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init all
init bcm

Initialise only the BCM driver layer.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init bcm
init mmu

Program only the MMU (packet buffer) settings. init misc and init tcam do the same for chip-specific setup and the TCAMs.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init mmu

Single modules: init <module> …. Initialise single BCM modules, such as port, l2, vlan or l3 (see the built-in help for the list). The chip must already be initialised; otherwise it prints Please try "init soc" first.. An unknown name prints Unknown module and the usage.

Unvalidated

drivshell> init l2

Built-in help

Parameters: [soc|noreset|mmu|bcm|misc|interrupt|all]
Performs various initializations (default is soc):
soc - resets the device, configures minimal register
            settings and enables interrupts
noreset - like soc, but does not reset the device
mmu - writes SDRAM and MMU parameters (does not size GBP)
bcm - initializes BCM driver internals/registers/tables
misc - performs chip-specific fundamental initialization
      tcam - perform tcam initialization
interrupt - initialize Interrupt Application Handler
all - equivalent to performing soc, mmu, misc, and bcm
Additional selective initialization (components of 'init bcm'):
port, l2, vlan, trunk, cosq, mcast, linkscan, stat, filter, diffserv
mirror, packet, l3, stack, ipmc, stg, mbcm, stp, tx, auth.
