CABLEdiag

Run Cable Diagnotics

CABLEdiag

Shortest form: cable.

Run the cable diagnostic (time-domain reflectometry) of a copper PHY on every port of a port bitmap (see Ports and port bitmaps), and print the state and length of each wire pair.

For each port the command prints port <name>: cable (<n> pairs) followed by one pair <A-D> <state>, length <m> meters line per pair, or port <name>: cable (<n> pairs, length +/- <m> meters) when the PHY reports only one length. A port whose PHY cannot run the test prints <cmd>: ERROR: port <name>: <error>. A bitmap that does not parse prints <cmd>: ERROR: unrecognized port bitmap: <arg>.

Cable diagnostics exist only on copper (BASE-T) PHYs. A Trident 3 switch running SONiC usually has none on its front-panel ports, so expect the error line for every port.

On ports that support it, the test drives the wire pairs and the link may go down while it runs. SONiC is not told.
