RATE

Manage packet rate controls

RATE

Show or set per-port packet-rate limits (storm control) for broadcast, multicast and DLF (unknown-unicast flood) traffic. There are no sub-command keywords.

RATE [PortBitMap=<pbmp>] [Limit=<pps>] [Bcast=<bool>] [Mcast=<bool>] [Dlf=<bool>]

The bitmap defaults to all ports. With no flags and no Limit, the command shows the current settings: Current settings: and then one line per port such as ce0: Bcast= TRUE,Limit=1000; Mcast=FALSE ; Dlfbc=FALSE ;. A type without a limit shows FALSE and no Limit; a port without any storm control, the normal state on SONiC, reads ce0: Bcast=FALSE ; Mcast=FALSE ; Dlfbc=FALSE ;. If you give a flag without Limit, the port’s current limit is kept. A negative Limit is rejected with Error: Negative rate limit.

Showing is read-only. Setting overrides the storm-control limits that SONiC configures (PORT_STORM_CONTROL); SONiC does not see the change.

Hardware-validated — Show the limits of ce0 (read-only)

drivshell> rate pbm=ce0
Current settings:
 ce0: Bcast=FALSE ; Mcast=FALSE ; Dlfbc=FALSE ;

Unvalidated — Limit broadcast on ce0 to 1000 packets/s (changes the ASIC)

drivshell> rate pbm=ce0 limit=1000 bcast=true

Built-in help

Parameters: [PortBitMap=<pbm>] [Limit=<limit>] [Bcast=true|false]
      [Mcast=true|false] [Dlf=true|false]
    Enables the specified packet rate controls.
      pbm port(s) to set up or display
      limit     packets per second
      bcast     Enable broadcast rate control
      mcast     Enable multicast rate control
      dlf Enable DLF flooding rate control
    If no flags are given or only <pbm> is given, displays the current
    rate settings.
