CLOCKS

Set core clock frequency.

CLOCKS

Set the core clock of a reference board through its clock-synthesizer chip: clocks <speed> (MHz) prints Set <name> clock to <f>Mhz; clocks w311mode switches the driver to the Cypress W311 chip. Changing the core clock of a running switch chip can hang it.

This is a utility for Broadcom reference boards. It talks to a named device in the SDK’s I2C device table, on the I2C bus of the switch chip itself. On a SONiC switch the platform’s fans, sensors, EEPROMs and optics are normally handled by the platform drivers on the CPU’s own I2C buses, so the device is usually missing and the command prints CLOCKS: cannot open I2C device pll0: ….

Built-in help

Usages:
           clocks w311mode
               - enable Cypress W311 clock chip driver mode.
           clocks [speed]
               - set BCM56xx core clock speed.
