STKMode

Hardware Stacking Mode Control

STKMode

Shortest form: stkm.

Show or change the unit’s module ID. With no argument the command prints the module ID, for example:

STKMode: unit 0: module id 0

If the unit uses more than one module ID, the line ends in (uses <n> module ids). An SL mode … line follows only when SL stacking is on. The first word is the command name as you typed it. SONiC runs stkmode without arguments in show techsupport and saves the output as broadcom.stkmode (scripts/generate_dump (show techsupport collector)). The OpenBCM rc.soc scripts use stkmode modid=<n> to number the chips on multi-chip boards (OpenBCM sdk-6.5.27/rc: rc.soc, config.bcm, td3_sanity.soc, cmd_td3_tr514_lr.soc, tr51/tr517_bcm56870_a0.soc, bcm_diag_info.soc …).

Modid=<n> sets the module ID, and ModPortClear=T clears the module-port map. The other keys in the built-in help do nothing useful:

  • Cascade= is listed but not accepted. Cascade=T fails with STKMode: Invalid argument: Cascade=T.

  • SimplexPorts= and DuplexPorts= are accepted and ignored.

  • SLCount=<n> always fails with STKMode: ERROR: bcm_stk_sl_simplex_count_set: Feature unavailable.

Without arguments the command is read-only.

Warning

Modid= changes the module ID that every port and forwarding entry programmed by SONiC depends on. ModPortClear=T clears the module-port map. Either can break forwarding behind syncd.

Hardware-validated — Show the module ID (as run by SONiC show techsupport)

drivshell> stkmode
STKMode: unit 0: module id 0

Unvalidated — Set the module ID (multi-chip boards; not for SONiC)

drivshell> stkmode modid=0
