XAUI

Run XAUI BERT on specified port pair

XAUI

Run a XAUI bit-error-rate test (BERT) between two ports. The test sweeps every combination of transmit pre-emphasis, driver current and receive equalizer, and reports the result of each step.

The only sub-command is bert, and it must be typed in full. Any other word prints <cmd>: ERROR: Unknown xaui subcommand: <word>. Both ports must be HiGig or xe ports; otherwise the command prints <cmd>: ERROR: Invalid port selection <src>, <dst>.

The test is written for the older XAUI SerDes. Trident 3 ports use different SerDes cores, so the command is not useful on a Trident 3 switch.

Warning

XAUI bert turns linkscan off for the whole unit, forces both ports to 10 Gb/s and rewrites their SerDes settings for every step. It restores the saved settings at the end, also when a step fails. If the command is interrupted or the restore fails, the ports and linkscan stay changed behind SONiC’s back.

Unvalidated

drivshell> XAUI bert SrcPort=xe0 DestPort=xe1 Duration=1000000 Verbose=0
XAUI bert SrcPort=<port> DestPort=<port> [Duration=<usec>] [Verbose=<bool>]

Run the sweep. SrcPort and DestPort take a port name or number. Duration is the time each step runs, in microseconds. The built-in help writes Verb=0/1, which is a valid abbreviation of Verbose.

Without Verbose the command prints one table per pre-emphasis value (Preemphasis = <n>), with a row per driver current, a column per equalizer setting, and ( P ) for pass or ( F ) for fail in each cell. With Verbose it prints one line per step, with the transmitted and received byte counts, bit errors and PRBS lock in each direction.
